This male red-bellied woodpecker loves to eat his suet. This is a special blend they make for woodpeckers, but of course the other birds eat it as well. And yes, I know the suet is still in it’s plastic package on one side. The package is hard and the birds can’t ingest it. I have it that way so that the birds will come to this side where it’s open and we can get a good view of them. This was my mom’s devilishly bright plan. Thanks for watching!

The video starts with a female Downy woodpecker feeding on suet.–but then I notice next to her is a male Nuttall’s woodpecker. Quickly, the male Nuttall’s flies up into the tree above and feeds a waiting female chick. The male returns to the suet for more food and again flies up to the waiting female chick. The suet is my homemade suet!
Sorry for the camera shake as I adjusted the tripod!
