After Halloween and Thanksgiving with the approach of the weather has a way of letting you know that it is changing. It is also a reminder that, while birds have visiting your garden that all the food that they were enjoying the summer is about to be very scarce.
It would be very good if you had to fill there food supply by setting up some bird feeders in the garden, and before Thanksgiving Day is the perfect time. This will give the birds a chance to find the feeders. Fear not if you haven’t had bird feeders before it can take sometimes because they birds to find them. After a few birds have visited believe me they will spread the word around the neighborhood and you’ll soon receive a lot of visitors.
When the winter is very hard on the birds to find food and they have to search from sunrise to sunset to get enough food to keep themselves healthy. Their body temperature is one hundred and eight degrees. This requires a lot of carbohydrates to keep their metabolism. Fatty foods are very important for the winter birds and can be supplied by suet or peanut butter mixed with seeds, berries and vegetables to make a delicious cakes that ensures the birds with a great boost of nutrition. When you buy food be sure and buy seed the birds will eat black oil sunflower seed and white millet seed mixes must contain large quantities of this and avoid mixes that a lot of fillers like wheat seeds contain and milo the birds do not eat them and that’s just a waste of money.
Speaking of money has been estimated by the u.s. Fish And Wildlife Service that more than 40 million people more than two billion dollars per year to feed birds spend so you would be in good company in providing for our feathered friends during the winter. Some people buy an electric stove for bad bird to keep water available. If you do please be sure you clean them on a regular basis to prevent a build up of bacteria or disease.
I would be remiss if I didn’t have one last thing mentioned. Squirrels, some people hate them with a passion others love to watch their Hi jinks. If you do not feed the squirrels there are that squirrel proof bird feeders. But personally I think they deserve a break and they are pretty funny to watch.
Along with food and water birds really need once the ponds and creeks freeze, it is difficult for them to enough to stay well hydrated. A bird-bath with two or three inches of water can be placed in the garden and changed two or three times per day if it begins to freeze.

Fall is here and it is a wonderful time to do anything other than. Prepare flower beds for next year, get planted tulip bulbs, get your bird houses checked out and/or replaced, get the lawn fertilized so it is lush and green in the spring, and hundreds of other outdoor projects. The air is crisp and clean, the autumn colors are at their brightest and the weather cooperates at almost every turn. Fall is one of my favorite times of the year, but we all know what the decline also means; winter is not too far behind.
If you live in a cold climate your birds need special attention. Now, I’ve lived in a cold climate. For 13 years I lived in a small town called Canton, NY and it was the coldest place I have ever lived. I worked for Corning Glass Works there and the company actually had banks of Sockets connected to any light pole in the parking lot. When you arrived on a cold winter morning you rolled your extension cord, plugged it into one of the sockets on the pole and the other end connected to the heater block in your car. This kept the water in your engine warm so that your car would start for the day when you leave. This was necessary in a place where temperatures of-30 are not uncommon. If you forget to close your car in the oil could get so thick in your engine that it just wouldn’t change about.
Now I assume that most of you live in that extreme of an environment. If you’re in the northern half of the country your Winter Nights can still get really cold. Imagine having to spend all day, every day in that cold. That is what the birds that you have attracted to your garden should do. It is hard on them and this article will tell you a few things you can do to their days much less stressful.
First, and probably most important, their food supply. When they come to rely on the food you put out don’t let it run for another day. While they are resourceful they are not been looking for other sources of food in relation to what you have provided them and locating another source will consume energy that they need in order to keep warm. Secondly, feed them high energy foods. Suet is a great source of energy and so is black oil sunflower seeds. If you put out will you even woodpeckers suet to your home to withdraw because they love suet.
A warning from personal experience. Don’t buy more sunflower seeds than you can in a reasonable period of time. I have a lot of times on black oil sunflower seeds seeds of a local supply store. I bought 200 pounds and that was probably going to last me through the winder. I saved in my garage and kept the bird feeders filled on a daily basis. Not only does black oil sunflower seeds attract birds it also attracts mice. That attracts a lot of them. Much. It was a horrible experience and one you don’t have to go through.
If you have a variety of birds to your feeders put out a variety of seeds. Niger seed is loved by goldfinch, black seed oil is loved by all birds, safflower is good for Chickadees and tits and white millet, spread on the ground, is a favorite of mourning doves and Juncos.
Another thing to consider is a good source of water. Bird baths can be obtained now that are heated and offer your birds with fresh water for the winter. This bird baths are also much easier to keep clean in the winter because algae grows in just not really cold temperatures. Your fresh water birds can become difficult to obtain in the winter and a constant source will extremely welcome to them.
One last thing to consider is a bird that warming box, commonly called a roasting box, which you can get a number of birds at the end of the day from cold wind and share body heat with each other. These boxes can be a life saver in cold climates and your birds will love you for them.
So you are now providing food, shelter and a water supply. Your birds will be grateful and provide you with constant entertainment by the long cold winter days come and they stay close by when spring here because they have an excellent environment in which to raise a family.

Autumn is an abundant time of year for wild birds. Entire colonies of insects are available for the picking, summer flowers are gone to seed, and there is fresh water available in abundance.
Fall is the primary season when birds are out scouting for reliable sources of winter food and a safe place to nest.
For this reason, bird watchers hopeful that on the first winter storm waiting to hang birdhouses and stock feeders can find a decreased population: birds have already finished the area scouted and found nothing to write home about.
Safe birdhouses encourage Winter litters:
Wild birds will begin arriving at a well-prepared backyard at the beginning of cold weather, when the surrounding areas have been picked clean and fresh water is scarce. Safe birdhouses should ready all instead of direct wind and away from areas where the cats and other predators can hide.
Good format and placed birdhouses to encourage birds build their nests winter, and well-stocked feeders ensure that they stick around. Birds such as chickadees and nuthatches are attracted to evergreens, so places winter feeders and birdhouses near these forms of plants and trees birds a place perch and research before deciding whether she wishes to partake of the offer.

Birds and other local game are easily attracted to an area with natural brush, hidden nests spots and a bountiful supply of food. Occasionally, all the things needed to be found in one location. More generally, can place their nests of birds found in an area and to search for food in other locations. This is especially true in the winter when food is scarce.
As humans, we can help by providing a source of food for birds in winter by erecting or hanging bird feeders. The best food for birds is a variety of wild birdseed, suet and different fruits. Suet offers a high energy food source to help maintain their normal body temperature during the winter months birds. Sunflower seeds grown in the garden can remain on the head of the flower for a fine rest and eat on the spot. Sunflower seeds can be planted on the edge of wooded lot and crop fields or other unused areas. Just be sure there is some coverage protection for our fine feathered friends when picking your planting rights on the spot.
Grow your own birdseed is by far the cheapest method. Americans spend millions of dollars each year only for the purchase of bird seed. Be aware that black oil sunflower seed is not conducive to your esteemed hosta or many other beautiful plants to grow. If you are a bird feeder filled with this preference of bird type of sunflower seeds hang keep this in mind.
Many people including myself find lots of fun and relaxation in watching the many colourful and interesting birds that nature has to offer. What better way to start the day than watching these energetic little creatures from your own window.
As enjoyable as it can for people, we must ask ourselves if the provision of a food supply on an artificial way is in the best interest of the birds themselves. One of the serious consequences would be that in creating a source of food for predatory animals like the neighborhood cats. This problem can be can be prevented by careful selection of feeder and other food source placement and location. To discourage a neighbor cat from jumping in my bad bird I propose a great landscape statue is large enough for the birds to land on in the middle of the bad bird. The statue eliminates all available disk space for the cat to perch.
Providing a source of food for birds is easy and enjoyable. Placing two or more feeders near trees or shrubs will attract many different species of birds. Using different types of food and feeders along with areas of asylum will you enjoy the company of many migratory birds, as well as local birds that overwinter in your environment.

This is a teeny tiny black seeds, and it is very expensive, but worth it as there may be dozens of Goldfinches, to your feeder herd cause. You may want a special feeder to buy (the hanging tube type), and can you only designed for the seat with small holes. You can use it near the House right to put the birds get a better view. Goldfinches dont mind people munch and may in the course of time become fairly tame.
4. White millet is an affordable seed, which is great for ground feeding birds such as mourning doves sparrows and Juncos, and can even in the snow, these birds have scattered on the ground to a fine meal.
5. Fat is a great source of energy, so hang suet feeder can help in winter your birds give a little boost. can all kinds of different suet feeders buy some other things in mixed, or make your own with fat from the butcher counter in a mesh onion bag.
Along with making sure your birds set have seeds for the winter, you should think about getting a heated birdbath. Water is vital to birds and often in the winter there is no running water be found so that your birdbath maybe more attractive than your feeder!
